Guildhall Library is the library for London history, holding over 200,000 titles dating from the 15th to the 21st centuries and covering all aspects of life in London from its trade to its key people and buildings. Famous holdings include a Shakespeare First Folio and Samuel Pepys’ collections.
Our dedicated librarian offers historical workshops for schools on a range of topics, including the Great Plague, the Fire of London and witch hunts in early modern London. These workshops give students the opportunity to view original and secondary sources and contemporary accounts held in the library. Students will be invited to think about how interpretations of the past have been constructed, make connections, analyse trends and begin to formulate valid historical questions. Students also experience a storytelling session and creative writing workshop.
